Katarina began ice-skating at age five. When her talent for skating began to show and she was accepted to a Karl-Marx-Stadt school that is geared towards youngsters with sporting talent. This was where she met the coach of her choice, Jutta Muller. Witt made her breakthrough in 1982, when she placed second in the World Championships at Copenhagen. Her elegance and grace caught everyone's attention at that time, and from then ahead she became the dominant figure skater in the competition. Olympic success Katarina Wit took home gold in women's ice skating at Sarajevo Winter Games 1984. Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after a fiercely competitive competition. The following year she took home an even tighter contest. Free skaters lost, but she won the gold medal for the mandatory figures and her program was short. Witt is the only time a repeat woman to win the women's figure skating since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 after a successful career acting. Though she did not win a medal, Witt enchanted her audience despite placing seventh. Witt got her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame on the 15th of April, 1995.
